The humble push-up is such an underrated exercise. Executed well it develops and strengthens your upper body and core, has many variations and can be performed just about anywhere without the need of expensive equipment.
If you find that you can’t perform push ups without placing your knees on the floor, there are things you can do to improve and progressively strengthen your muscles until you are performing them confidently.
Push-up tips by Coach James:
▪️The key to success is to follow a progressive pattern of incremental change.
1️⃣Instead of performing push-ups with your knees touching the floor, place an object beneath your chest. A medicine ball, footstool, large cushion, pillow etc. will do
2️⃣Adopt the push-up position so only your hands and feet are touching the floor (remember, no knees!)
3️⃣Lower yourself to the object. Push up and repeat
4️⃣Next time you train, swap the object for something slightly smaller/lower in height so that you lower yourself a little further
5️⃣Keep swapping objects for smaller ones as you progress so that you get progressively lower
6️⃣Within time, as your body adapts and becomes stronger, you’ll be performing full push ups without anything beneath you. And I can guarantee, your knees will thank you for it.
